Luke Bell’s Rehabilitation journey from breaking both legs in a Supercross accident.

In November of 2019, 16 year old super cross Athlete, Luke Bell broke both of his legs while competing at the Wollongong super cross. Luke attempted a triple through at the rhythm section when he got wheel spin, sending him and his bike flying down the ramp, breaking both of his legs, shattering his left tibia into 4+ pieces. With the local hospital unable to accomodate, Luke endured an excruciating ride home from Wollongong to the Dandenong hospital where he underwent his initial surgery to place all of the shattered bone back together with plates, screws and pins. multiple surgeries followed to not only better restore Luke's bone but to also reduce his level of pain caused by his injuries.

Luke wasted no time with his injury rehabilitation, getting straight into Physiotherapy and returning to the gym as soon as he could. Unable to bear any weight on his lower body, Luke began with upper body strength and conditioning while simultaneously completing his injury rehabilitation through Exercise Physiology. With multiple surgeries affecting Luke's rehabilitation timeline, he often ebbed and flowed between both the Performance Rehabilitation Program with a heavy rehab focus and the Athlete Development program to capitalise on improving his performance between surgeries. Luke was discharged early from his rehabilitation program and returned to ADP 11 months after his accident. It was his sheer determination and commitment to his rehab program and getting better that lead to an incredible outcome and great return for Luke.

2 year post injury, Luke is now 18 years old, still competing in his beloved sport, he is still an active and beloved Axis Performance ADP Member and has become part of the furniture at Axis. We could not be prouder of Luke's ability to get up, dust himself off and try again and again. His maturity extended far beyond his years and the success of Luke's rehabilitation journey and return to his sport is a true testament of the young man that he is. Well done Luke!
